A review of Viking Coffee Shop by John Kellas written on Wednesday 27th of April 2022
I first started going to the Viking in 1966 when I was 15 and a Mod. Viking was a meeting point for the mods. It was always packed full of smartly dressed mods and until I left Lincoln in December 1967 it was the highlight if my Saturdays. Up in the morning, get dressed up in our gear and off to the Viking. It was an integral part of Lincoln's mod culture in the 60's. Back in he noughties I went back to the Viking and there it was, as if time had stood still. I went in and ordered a milky frothy coffee with sugar even though I have been a black coffee man for 50 odd years. I wanted the nostalgia feeling. I spoke to the lady behind the counter and she told me it was going to close down. I was very sad at this news but now see that it is still going. I have made it one if my priorities to go back again soon. At my last visit I met up with Hazel Wilson, my first 'real' girlfriend. It was all an overdose if nostalgia. Fantastic. The coffee was excellent. The only thing missing was that I didn't have a scooter outside. Big up for the Viking.
